The big debate; Subs vs Dubs

Anime, even now I cannot help but wonder what makes it so easy to rant on yet still be so well liked.

Anime has many styles, genres, techniques and companies behind them but of course there is one thing that they all have in common, something that no matter what; The debate is never ending.

Subs versus dubs.

Any anime fan has had this debate with fellow fans and even a moment of doubt with themselves.

So what is better then, subtitles or dubbed? That of course is a question that will never have a concise ending.

Anime comes from Japan so of course regardless of what company and television channel has the rights to it the anime will of course be aired in none other than; Japanese. No shocker there really I mean seriously guys that’s a no brainer.

So what does occur afterwards then? I mean what if some of the audience interested in it does not understand Japanese? That’s where the split comes and the debates start.

Everything branches out from there. Subbers go their own way and dubbers go theirs.
Some subtitling are done professionally and taken care of by the companies themselves while others are left to the hands of the fans, hence the title Fansubbers.

Subtitles can have great benefits I mean it helps those who cannot understand the Japanese language enjoy the show without being too lost. On the other hand, even done professionally subtitles can be messed up and not deliver the correct or exact dialogue or phrase.

Alright let’s get onboard the train and keep on moving over to dubs but before we do let me give you a bit of background history about me and dubs.

As I have mentioned in my previous post I am a 90’s kid and in the two decades I have been alive I have witnessed the United States butcher so many anime that I don’t think even my vegetarianism self can kill so many animals if I was carnivorous. But I’ll let that slide for now, I mean let’s be honest if it would not have been for the English dubs I don’t think I would have gotten to know the anime I have come to love nowadays.


Saior Moon, Card Captor Sakura, Ojamajo Doremi, Tokyo Mew Mew and many others are amongst the list that were butchered to no extent and without mercy but without those English dubs where would the anime market be at this time?

I’ve seen my fair share of horrible ones believe me I have but even amongst those comes the greatness that some, even if they are slightly outnumbered have brought out to shine forth like the star they should- I’d know I’ve seen both English and Spanish dubs.

So whether you speak Japanese, English, Spanish or any other language out there just be glad to know that you have options to pick from for your anime experience.
